Burbank Centennial Celebration

~ Book Festival ~

Multi Author Event

We will have a booth (easy-up tent, tables and chairs) set up at the entrance to the library, just outside of the meeting room. Signings will be before and after the panel, outside at the booth. Six of our published authors will be participating in the signing with four of our pre-pubbed members joining with us on the panel discussion.

Christine London as moderator will adapt an outline used successfully at many brick and mortar stores as well as other libraries, for the occasion. Sharing of the process toward and after publication will be discussed in an informal give and take between panelists and the audience.

We are excited to spread the enthusiasm of LARA members at all stages of their career. Christine Ashworth, Jennifer Haymore, Charlene Sands, Kaitlin O'Riley and Dayle Dermatis will share their personal adventures, Dayle volunteering to provide information on her self publication experience. Suzanne Lazear will add zest as she awaits the release of her first novel and Robin Bielman and Anne Kemp, perspective from the aspiring author's point of view.

Linda O. Johnston and Laura Sheehan are our very worthy panel alternates. We welcome them and all our LARA sisters and brothers to be panelists-at-large in the audience as we share our love of this genre.

2010 NaNoWriMo

Every year, during the entire month of November, thousands (maybe even millions) attempt to write 50,000 words in hopes of winning the coveted National Novel Writing Month award. 50,000 words is not quite a book, might be a novella, but most certainly, a darn good start to that 80, 000+ word paperback!

In order to win, one must 'cross the line' by turning in their word count to the NaNo counters. The trophy? You're looking at it - this is the winner's NaNo banner.

Interested? go to:

Maybe next year, you coulld have one, too!
Open to all ages, all genres, all countries, all... well, it's for you!

March 9
Opening Night for "300" at L.A. IMAX : How could the film possibly live up to the hype? Honor, Duty, Glory on the backdrop of a mesmerizing blood ballet; sit back, slack jawed and be amazed. Christine attended the opening night with a packed house. The audience seemed reticent to leave after the film. Men were revved up in that curious expression of male bonding that involves the pounding of backs and the punching of shoulders. The women showed their enthusiasm during the film, cheering at the assertive control the Queen displays in support of her husband and country. Awed to be in attendance at the unveiling of this modern masterpiece of art and virtue, long after the stunning visuals wash away the strength of the piece remains: honor, duty and no, not glory…integrity. ~ AK

March 5
U.S. Red Carpet Premiere for "300" : Christine attended the Grumann's Chinese Theater arrival of cast and crew for the movie 300. Director, Zack Snyder, author, Frank Miller, and actors, Rodrigo Santoro, David Wenham, Gerard Butler and Lena Heady strolled the carpet. Only Santoro and Butler crossed the street to acknowledge their fans, signing autographs and conversing briefly with the crowd. "Gerry, thank you for answering my question at Wondercon," Christine said. A questioning expression, then a glint of recognition, a chuckle and a broad smile followed. Thanks for all you do, Ger! ~ AK

March 3
WonderCon : Christine attends the convention of all things modern media at San Francisco's Moscone Center. The thirty five hundred seat Esplanade Ballroom was standing room only for the presentation of the upcoming spring and summer movie panel of experts. Ratatouille, Spiderman 3, The Reaping, Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Transformer Movie directors, actors, producers, animators were all in attendance on the various panels. By far the most anticipated panel of the day: 300. It was the Zack and Gerry show with a smiling, but quiet Lena heady filling out the triad. "What do you hope the legacy of the film will be?", Christine asked the panel. The room held it's breath. Check out Christine blog at http://christinelondon.blogspot.com for more. ~ AK

March 1
The Late, Late Show : Christine attended taping of two episode of the Late Late Show with Scot, Craig Ferguson, host. Australian new age/salsa/jazz band, Cat Empire, actor/director Henry Winkler, academy award winner Jennifer Hudson, Family Guy creator, Seth MacFarlane and the man of the hour, Gerard Butler, were all guests. What is it about a cold wintry Montreal evening that gets a man to thinking about his cigarette addiction? "I quite fancied a fag after the long five month shoot". Automatic Brit brain engaged, Gerry referred to his fall from abstinence in the only way a Scot would. The audience loved his American faux pas, chortling along with him in his embarrassment. Rushed beyond reason, booked past sanity in the vortex of promotion for his new movie, Gerard paused to acknowledge his admirers by signing fan generated paraphernalia backstage. Class act. ~ AK

February 11
VES : Christine London was a guest at the 5th Visual Effects Society (VES) Award gala at The Kodak Theater in Los Angeles (same venue as the academy awards). Hobknobbing with the likes of George Lucas and Jerry Bruckheimer in the Grand Ballroom made for a fun and inspiring evening! ~ AK
